Musanze Residents Join Car Free Day Mass Sport to Promote Healthy and Responsible Lifestyles

Musanze, September 20, 2026 - Members of the Musanze District Executive Committee, led by the District Mayor, Mr. Nsengimana Claudien, joined residents in a Car Free Day mass sport activity held in Musanze City to promote healthy lifestyles, physical fitness and the prevention of non-communicable diseases.

The activity started at Ubworoherane Stadium and ended at the Musanze Youth Center, where participants took part in collective stretching and mass aerobics led by professional fitness instructors. The programme featured jogging, cycling, skating demonstrations and other physical exercises along designated vehicle-free pathways.

Participants included Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development Mrs. Uwanyirigira Clarisse, Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs Mr. Theobald Kayiranga, DPC SSP James Bagabo, representatives of RDF, RCS, Rwanda Skating Federation, anti-drug groups, different sports clubs and residents, the majority of whom were young people.

In messages delivered by various officials, including the District Mayor and DPC,  participants were encouraged to maintain healthy and responsible lifestyles by staying away from alcohol abuse and drug use. Young people were also urged to avoid gambling and other harmful behaviours that can expose them to dishonesty, theft and other social challenges.

The officials further encouraged residents, particularly the youth, to embrace hard work, pursue meaningful livelihoods and uphold values and culture that contribute to responsible citizenship and community development. Participants were also called upon to play an active role in maintaining security and in the fight against substandard alcoholic beverages.

Following the mass sport activities, the District Mayor, Mr. Nsengimana Claudien, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Rwanda Kung Fu Wushu Federation in recognition of Musanze District’s support for the National Junior Wushu Championship 2026, held in Rwamagana District on August 30, 2026, and participated in by a Kung Fu club.

The Car Free Day activity brought together residents, public institutions, sports clubs and partners in a collective effort to promote physical activity, healthy living, responsible behaviour and community wellbeing.
