Team Europe Delegation Visits Mutobo Demobilisation and Reintegration Center
On the second day of their visit in Musanze District, a delegation from the Team Europe Joint Mission, led by H.E. Ambassador Belen Calvo Uyarra, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda, paid an official visit to Mutobo Demobilisation and Reintegration Center.
The delegation comprised Ambassadors from France, Germany, and the Netherlands, as well as Chargés d’Affaires from Poland and Luxembourg.
During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the processes through which former combatants are received, rehabilitated, and reintegrated into society. Special attention was given to individuals formerly associated with armed groups responsible for the Genocide against the Tutsi, currently operating in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, notably the FDLR.
The Commission highlighted its holistic approach to reintegration, which includes civic education programmes and vocational training. These initiatives equip former combatants with practical skills for self-employment, enabling them to successfully transition back into civilian life and reintegrate into their communities.
In her remarks, Ambassador Belen Calvo Uyarra appreciated the positive steps taken by former combatants to dissociate themselves from armed groups, particularly the FDLR, and commended their commitment to rebuilding their lives within society.
Regarding regional peace efforts, Ambassador Belen emphasized that the European Union continues to support ongoing peace processes, including the Washington Accords, Doha negotiations, and African-led mediation initiatives, aimed at ensuring lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
The visit underscored the importance of international cooperation in supporting Rwanda’s efforts to promote peacebuilding, stability, and sustainable reintegration.
