Musanze Food Park nears completion, set to boost tourism and local economy

The construction of the Musanze Food Park, one of the district’s flagship urban development projects, has reached 90% and is expected to be finalized by the end of June 2026, according to Eng. Evariste Niyomwungeri, the structural engineer overseeing the project.

The project, officially launched on February 20, 2025, is being implemented by a joint venture of Sun Invest Ltd and EMG Construction Ltd. With a total approved budget of Rwf 1.307 billion, the project is financed through funding from the Local Administrative Entities Development Agency.

Located in the heart of Musanze City, the Food Park is designed to serve as a modern commercial, leisure, and hospitality hub, providing a dedicated space for restaurants, cafés, and food-related businesses.

Now, discussions are still underway regarding the management and operational model that will be adopted once the facility is completed. The institution or company that will oversee its management and maintenance is yet to be officially designated.

District officials expect the Food Park to generate significant economic benefits by creating investment opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses while stimulating growth in hospitality, retail, and food supply chains. The facility is also expected to strengthen demand for locally sourced agricultural products, benefiting farmers and agribusiness operators across the region.

Beyond its economic impact, the project is anticipated to enhance Musanze’s tourism appeal by offering visitors a dedicated culinary and recreational destination. The food park is expected to enrich the city's cultural and leisure offerings, encourage longer tourist stays, and increase visitor spending.

The project is also projected to create employment opportunities both during construction and after completion. Permanent jobs are expected in restaurants, catering services, maintenance, security, and facility management, while additional indirect employment opportunities are likely to emerge in agriculture, transportation, entertainment, and tourism-related services.

The Musanze Food Park will play a key role in urban renewal efforts and support the district’s vision of becoming a vibrant tourism and lifestyle destination in northern Rwanda. Through its emphasis on local products and services, the project is also expected to contribute to the national “Made in Rwanda" agenda.

Once operational, it is expected to become more than a dining destination, serving as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, job creation, tourism diversification, and sustainable economic development in the district.
