Musanze District Celebrates the 32nd Liberation Day with the Inauguration of Key Development Projects
The 32nd Liberation Day was commemorated at the district level in Karwasa Cell, Gacaca Sector, bringing together hundreds of residents, the Musanze District Executive Committee led by Mayor Claudien Nsengimana, representatives of RDF and RNP from the Northern Province, the Chairperson of FPR-Inkotanyi in Musanze District, and other government and security officials. The celebrations were preceded by the inauguration of several development projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents and expanding access to essential services across the district.
Mayor Claudien Nsengimana, accompanied by senior RDF and RNP officials from the Northern Province, inaugurated the bridge linking Remera Sector in Musanze District with Cyabingo Sector in Gakenke District. The bridge was constructed under the security institutions'community support programme, which promotes socio-economic development. The Mayor also officially opened the Musanze Food Court in Muhoza Sector, a modern recreational and hospitality facility where visitors can enjoy meals, refreshments, and other leisure services. During the same event, he inaugurated a house built by the Ministry of Defence for a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi who previously had no permanent shelter. Both projects are located in Muhoza Sector. The Mayor later inaugurated four newly constructed houses in Cyuve Sector for survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, reaffirming the district's commitment to improving the living conditions of vulnerable citizens.
Meanwhile, the Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, Ms. Clarisse Uwanyirigira, officiated the inauguration of the Buremo Bridge in Migeshi Cell and the Cyuve Health Post, which was constructed under the Rwanda Urban Development Project (RUDP) to expand access to quality healthcare services.
The Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Mr. Theobald Kayiranga, accompanied by DCI in Musanze District, joined residents of Gacaca Sector in inaugurating the Umurava Health Post, built through a partnership with Save the Children, as well as the new maternity ward at Karwasa Health Centre. The maternity ward has already begun providing services. At the time of its inauguration, a mother who had just delivered a baby boy was receiving postnatal care, demonstrating the facility's immediate contribution to maternal and newborn health services.
During the event, various development partners working in Gacaca Sector were recognized for their outstanding contribution to improving the economic and social well-being of local communities.
As part of the Kwibohora32 celebrations, activities continued, in afternoon at Ubworoherane Stadium, where friendly matches in volleyball, traditional stick game (Agati), and football were held between the PSF Musanze and Inyangakugoma teams. Among those who attended the sporting event were the Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development, Ms. Clarisse Uwanyirigira, the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Mr. Theobald Kayiranga, the Chairperson of FPR-Inkotanyi in Musanze District, and the Representative of the Rwanda National Police in the Northern Province, along with many residents and local leaders.The private sector team emerged victorious in all three competitions. In the football match, the private sector defeated Inyangakugoma with a 2–1 scoreline.
Messages delivered during the Liberation Day celebrations focused on expressing gratitude to the Rwanda Patriotic Army for liberating the country, promoting hygiene and sanitation, safeguarding and building upon the achievements made since liberation, strengthening self-reliance, and fostering patriotism among all Rwandans.
