More details on food court project

Musanze District has been constructing a modern food court, a project designed to transform urban infrastructure while advancing national and global development goals. The initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Rwanda Vision 2050, and the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), as well as Musanze District’s own development priorities.

The planned food court/park is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable urbanization, improve public spaces, and enhance the quality of life for residents. District officials emphasize that the project will contribute directly to key SDGs, including Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

The project will play a vital role in supporting Rwanda’s long-term vision of becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2035 and a high-income nation by 2050. By investing in green infrastructure and modern leisure spaces, Musanze aims to strengthen its position as a hub for tourism and economic activity.

The food court will provide a wide range of benefits to the community. It is expected to offer diverse and affordable dining options, create a vibrant social gathering space, and support local entrepreneurs by giving them a platform to showcase their products. The inclusion of green spaces and outdoor seating will also promote relaxation, well-being, and environmental sustainability.

In addition, the project is set to stimulate economic growth by creating jobs during both construction and operational phases. It will also contribute to the “Made in Rwanda” initiative through the use of locally sourced construction materials, boosting domestic industries.

The food court projects aligns with the District Development Strategy, which prioritizes infrastructure development to enhance tourism, expand access to public services, and improve urban aesthetics. Often regarded as a key tourism destination, Musanze is positioning itself as a “Tourism Centre of Excellence” through such transformative projects.

The construction is implemented in collaboration with the Local Administrative Entities Development Agency, alongside a designated contractor and project supervisor. Authorities have committed to achieving full implementation of the project within the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

Beyond infrastructure, the food court is expected to serve as a community hub, hosting social events, cultural activities, and recreational opportunities, while promoting hygiene, sustainability, and healthier eating habits.

The project will not only beautify the city but also strengthen community engagement, increase investment opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to Rwanda’s broader development agenda.
