A quarterly meeting of "Inshuti z’Umuryango
On this September 3rd, 2025, the Head of the Good Governance Unit, Mrs. Mukanyandwi Pelagie official launched a quarterly meeting of "Inshuti z’Umuryango"was held at the Musanze District headquarters, which brought together representatives of "Inshuti z’Umuryango" from sectors and Good Governance officers at sector level. The meeting was chaired by child protection officers, and focused on the following key topics: Identifying and addressing issues affecting children, the role of parents in child protection, Birth and civil registration and The role of “Malayika Murinzi” in addressing child protection issues.
The participants committed to encouraging families to ensure their children are registered in the civil registry and that children without documents (especially those abandoned) are assisted in getting registered. Participants were also reminded how unfortunate it is when a child is abandoned within an entire sector and there is no one with love and compassion willing to temporarily foster that child while efforts are made to locate their family. They were reminded of the criteria used to select a Malayika Murinzi and the reasons why some children are separated from their families and need to be taken in by a foster guardian. The meeting was successful and concluded with remarks by Mrs. Mukanyandwi Pelagie, the Director of the Good Governance Department.
The resolutions made include establishing a standardized reporting format for receiving and documenting child-related issues to be included in regular reports and conducting home visits and educate families on how to prevent any form of child abuse and promote positive values. Organizing awareness campaigns for parents to check whether their children are properly registered in the civil registry system and establish a Malayika Murinzi system to help address cases of abandoned or vulnerable children at the sector level.
