A 3-day Girls’ Camp kicking off event
The Gender and Family Promotion Officer, Mrs. GASOROMANTEJA Sylvanie besides Mr. NDAYAMBAJE Michel, the Regional Programme Coordinator at Action Aid Rwanda participated in a 3-day Girls’ Camp kicking off event in Shingiro LRP. The camp aimed at empowering 300 girls (ages 14–20) with skills in SRHR, leadership and rights awareness, supporting adolescent girls during a critical stage of growth and self-discovery. The camp offers a safe, inspiring space for them to learn, connect. Camp Theme: “Know Your Rights, Uncover Your Strengths, Stand Proud!”
Many girls still face taboos, lack of information, and societal pressure. This camp provides rights-based learning, leadership coaching, and creative expression tools to help girls stand tall and proud. Key objectives of the Camp include to increase awareness on SRHR, educate girls on their rights & the laws that protect them, build leadership skills like communication & teamwork and encourage self-expression through art & storytelling. The Program highlights include: Day 1: SRHR – puberty, menstruation, GBV, HIV/STIs Day 2: Children’s rights & laws protecting girls and women Day 3: Leadership—stories from women leaders, public speaking, values like empathy & courage. The expected outcomes include increased knowledge of rights, better understanding of SRHR, boosted confidence & leadership skills, stronger identity & peer solidarity, creative outputs like poems & drawings, etc.
These Girls’ Camps are more than events they are safe spaces for learning, growth, and empowerment. Together, we are building a generation of confident, informed, and resilient young women ready to lead and thrive.
